INTRODUCTION: JOEL 1:1
The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
The name Joel means “Jehovah is God.” This is an inversion of the name Elijah, which means “God is Jehovah.” The fact that his parents gave him a name in connection with God indicates that they were members of the Believing Remnant of that day. The only thing that is known about Joel's family is that he was the son of Pethuel, which means “the openheartedness of God” or “the sincerity of God.”
